I’ve really done very little dev in 2026, and the WWDC26 event is here and interest is piqued a little.
I watched the “what’s new in Swift” video and it looks like work on lifetimes (borrowing, sending, non-copyable, consuming, etc) is much improved, though not yet up to Rust-levels.
Watching the presentations, it seems to me Swift is starting to look less readable than before. So much meta information on declarations.
I guess the big push from Apple this year is Apple Intelligence, Foundation Models, Evaluations Framework and a lot of stability and cross platform improvements.
My interest is not piqued enough to get back into dev this summer (beta/preview builds, etc), but perhaps when everything 27 is released in the Autumn, I will.
